Haiti Response

I've finally decided to reactivate this blog in light of the terrible tragedy unfolding in Haiti right now. My DMAT team is low on the response priority, but I know of several other DMATs that have been deployed, they have got an extremely difficult job ahead of them.
Part of me of course wants to be there immediately, that is our nature, but the reality is that this will be a prolonged response with a need for many hands as the days, weeks and months go by.
Meanwhile, there is much to do behind the scenes. Communications is of course the most important and difficult to do with the infrastructure being wiped out, but already folks from SDSU's VizLab, InStedd, NIUSR, Google, and many more are trying to get the social networking up so people can see that even though they have not received help yet, that much is already there awaiting transportation to the affected areas. This will hopefully help avert some of the ensuing violence that is starting to happen.
This is a short entry for now, but I would like to make this a venue for communications with responders that are involved with this response, especially nursing, and to hopefully educate those interested in the different aspects of disaster response. Please feel free to contribute your stories, pictures, needs, etc.
Stay safe and take care of each other.
